Myth vs. Reality: Tanning and Acne

There’s a rumor out there that tanning, whether it be on the beach or in a booth, can benefit your skin. People believe it’ll even out skin tone and even help rid of acne. How this myth started, we can’t tell you. But we can tell you that it’s a rumor not to be believed.

We asked Susan to give us some insight on the topic of tanning and breakouts, and here’s what she had to say:

Tanning beds are very dangerous for the skin, and they can cause cancer just as easily as the sun. If you want to avoid summer breakouts, avoid sugars, like soda and ice cream, and processed foods. Drink plenty of water infused with fresh lemon juice several times a day. Using my Sea Clay Mask on breakouts every day or overnight will diminish blemishes and heal them more rapidly. Clay contains silica, a mineral that is known to kill bacteria. You can also take the mineral chelated zinc daily which will kill bacteria in your system.

Doctors agree, tanning will NOT get rid of acne, breakouts, or any other skin trouble you may have.

To treat summer breakouts, follow Susan’s lead. Eat well, take the time to take care of your skin, and protect your skin. Always use SPF, even if you’ll be exposed to the sun only for a short time. Your skin will thank you in the long run. And moms, be sure to pass this on to your daughters! We do the most damage to our skin in our adolescent years.

Recipe: Organic Pore-Minimizing Bread

Organic Pore-Minimizing Bread
Organic Pore-Minimizing Bread
A delicious way to minimize your pores by cleaning out your system

Active prep time: 10 minutes
Inactive prep time: 2 hours
Bake time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:
3 cups of spelt flour
1 to 2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 ½ cups of ground flax seeds
1 cup chia seeds
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 packet of dry yeast
1 tablespoon of honey
2 teaspoons of sea salt
1 cup of warm water

Directions:
Bloom yeast in warm water by combining yeast, water, and honey in a bowl. Let rest for 5 minutes.

Mix all dry ingredients. Add bloomed yeast and extra virgin olive oil. Mix until well incorporated. Knead for 5 minutes.

Apply just enough extra virgin olive oil to coat the bowl. Gently place dough in bowl and cover with cling wrap. Let rest for 2 hours in a dark, warm place. This dough will not rise much at all. It is a super-dense bread.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Allow oven to heat up for at least 20 minutes before baking bread.

Punch down dough and shape it into a loaf of desired length. Place in preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes or until golden brown. When you tap on the bottom of the loaf it should sound hollow. Let cool on a wire wrack.

This is a nutrient-dense bread that will help stimulate your colon and will naturally cleanse your system. Flax seed and chia seeds are excellent for you. The cleaner your colon is, the smaller your pores will be, and you will have fewer break-outs. It is delicious toasted.
