5 Tips for Weight Loss and Healthy Skin

feet on scale

People are always looking for the best diets and ways to lose weight; it seems like crazy new diet trends are coming out all the time. The truth is, it’s not rocket science and it’s not a secret. Here are my simple tips to help your body and skin become healthier:

1. Drink 1/2 ounce of water per pound that you weigh every day. This will help flush toxins from your system and jump-start weight loss.

2. Do not eat after 8:00 p.m. Eating after 8:00 p.m. inhibits digestion and causes weight gain, cellulite, skin disorders and a compromised immune system.

3. Eat an apple a day. Apples curb your appetite and contain the fiber necessary for proper bowel elimination.

4. Eat 5 times a day – 3 fairly small meals per day and 2 snacks. Apples and celery are great snacks that are low-glycemic foods and are very filling.

5. Avoid eating sugar, corn, wheat, cow dairy (this includes yogurt), alcohol, processed foods and excess salt. These foods not only cause bloating, but also cause blemishes and breakouts.

If you follow these tips you will never have a weight problem or have to ‘diet’ again.

Susan

Are you depressed?

rabbit-pose

My doctor Gary Ross taught me that when your thyroid is out of balance, depression occurs. In fact he wrote a great book about it called “Depression and Your Thyroid: What You Need To Know”. I just gave a lovely woman Reiki in my beauty clinic in Manhattan who is teetering on depression. She sought me out because her daughter in law told her how I use crystals on people during my facial treatments and it is a life altering experience.

I think women should have their thyroids checked periodically to make sure their levels are what they should be. Especially if they are getting depressed, losing their hair, have a scratchy voice or have low energy. Your thyroid is one of the most important organs and needs to be nurtured.

I asked my client to see her doctor, and also to do a few yoga poses. You must go to a good doctor who really understands the thyroid and how to read the tests. Namely the rabbit pose held for 1 1/2 minutes at a time, with a few minutes rest in between, and also head stands (resting against the wall with their feet) Both of these poses are extremely good for the thyroid. I also had her purchase my Algae Fine Powder Bath which really helps to make people feel energized as well as deeply relaxed. If anyone has any questions and wants to contact me please call 212 750 4441. Be well.

Take excellent care of yourself this cold and flu season!

4385234366_570d227770_z

Winter is coming. This is the season to drastically boost our immune systems. Especially now more than ever, with the possibility of Ebola and other strange viruses and diseases lurking about. Even though Ebola is a frightening disease, influenza is actually more deadly and much easier to catch. Vitamin D is an amazing vitamin to help ward off illness and improve your immune system. My doctor takes 15,000 IUs during flu season to avoid getting ill. I typically take around 5000 IUs a day, but increase it at the slightest hint of illness in my body. Vitamin C 500 milligrams at a time is also a great vitamin to take throughout the day to boost your immune system as well. Grapefruit seed extract and propolis are excellent ways to kill germs in our systems. If you need antibiotics from your doctor, keep in mind they tend to work more efficiently if you take them only when absolutely necessary. For all other times, boosting your immune system is the best means of defense.

There are also dietary changes you can make to help prevent from getting sick. Avoiding sugar, dairy and all wheat products will help as well, since these foods tend to increase the amount of mucus you have in your system and are extremely inflammatory. Of course eating healthy on a regular basis helps tremendously. Be extra careful this cold and flu season! Take good care of yourself and don’t forget to wash your hands often. Every little bit helps.

Be well,
xoxo
Susan

Adzuki Bean Soup Recipe

red bean soup for chinese new year

As we enter flu season it’s important that your kidneys are in optimal condition, as your kidneys filter the blood. This adzuki bean recipe cleanses the kidney area. Use this soup to get rid of dark circles underneath the eyes and alleviate bloating and water retention within the body.

Ingredients:

2 cups adzuki beans, soaked overnight in water to cover

1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

1 small onion, chopped

1 carrot, chopped

1 stalk celery, chopped

2 teaspoons cumin

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

3 garlic cloves, chopped

2 tablespoons freshly grated ginger

2 quarts chicken stock or vegetable stock or water

Sea salt

Freshly ground white pepper

1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice

1/2 cup freshly chopped cilantro

Drain the beans. Place the beans, along with 5 cups of cold water, in a large heavy-bottom pot and bring to a boil. Cook 1 hour, or until tender. Drain the beans and set aside.

In a stockpot, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the onions, carrots, celery, cumin, and turmeric, and saute until tender, about 10 minutes. Add the garlic and ginger and cook 1 minute. Add the beans and stock, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer an additional 25 minutes or until beans are tender, stirring occasionally.

Transfer the soup to a blender in batches and puree until smooth (or use an immersion blender). Return the pureed soup to the pot and reheat. Add the lime juice and cilantro. Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary.

Serves 6.

The trick to looking radiant in your makeup is starting with a healthy canvas!

foundations pretty

The purpose of wearing makeup is to enhance your naturally gorgeous features, so it is very important to start with a healthy, glowing canvas – your skin! Using natural, nutrient-rich products to prep your canvas makes all the difference when applying makeup. Makeup will never be as effective for people who do not properly feed their skin. Healthy skin deserves to be complemented with healthy mineral makeup by Susan Ciminelli.

Some foundations can really weigh down your skin, clogging your pores and increasing oil production. Mineral makeup is lightweight and easily blends into your skin. It is much healthier than BB creams or liquid foundations, most of which contain harsh chemicals that tend to penetrate deep into your pores. Mineral makeup allows your skin to breathe while it gives you the coverage you need. The few ingredients contained in mineral powder are what make it special compared to other powder foundations. Susan Ciminelli Mineral Powders contain SPF26 to help protect the skin from damaging UVA/UVB rays. They provide just the right amount of coverage and come in many different shades. They are non-comedogenic, which means they will never clog pores or cause breakouts. They are suitable for even to most sensitive skin types.

Try them and see what a difference using mineral powder can make on your skin!

Reiki is Our Answer to Chaos and Stress

4223625036_993cb9cd44_o

Stacey Lynn Avidane is the newest addition to the Ciminelli Team! She is a yoga practitioner and licensed esthetician. Stacey specializes in Reiki, reflexology, crystal healing and energy work, and has a very unique ability to rid the body of negative energy and bring it to a peaceful state. In addition to working with us, she also works with pediatric hospital patients who have cancer and other serious illnesses. We sat down with her to ask her about the importance of getting Reiki treatments.

What is Reiki?
Reiki means universal and ki means energy; and universal life force energy is within all of us. Reiki is a light, hands-on therapeutic touch treatment, which promotes healing of the emotional, physical and mental bodies. It calms the nervous system by harmonizing the energy centers (chakras) in the body. The word chakra translates to ‘wheel of energy,’ and they are part of our aura (energy field). When a person experiences stress, it initially affects their aura.”

How is a Reiki treatment given, and what does it feel like?
“The client lies down on their back, and the practitioner works from the head going down to the face, then to the throat, the heart and the belly. The practitioner’s hands are placed on these energy centers (chakras) for however long is necessary to transfer and balance the energy. It helps to unblock any congestion and stress in the body. Reiki feels very soothing to the recipient, and depending on their receptivity to the energy, it will come in the form of heat. It is very serene and relaxing. It feels like a waterfall of energy.”

How does it work?
“The practitioner becomes attuned to the Reiki energy by a Reiki master. When an attunement takes place, the practitioner becomes a channel of Universal divine healing energy. This channel strengthens the way muscles strengthen when used with intention.”

Who can be treated with Reiki?
“Reiki can be received by babies, children, adults, pets; any living thing on the planet can receive Reiki! You can receive it distantly too.”

Where does Reiki energy come from?
“Reiki is universal divine love. It comes from the universe.”

Why is Reiki important right now?
“As we feed off of each other’s energy, it’s important to keep ourselves very clean and protected from other people’s negativity. What we read, watch and hear becomes part of our thoughts, and Reiki will help transmute dark into light.”

Reiki is very effective in promoting relaxation, which is something we can all benefit from these days! If you haven’t had a Reiki treatment before, this is a great time to give it a try. Stacey is truly gifted in what she does; she can help release any negativity or fear that may be weighing you down, making room in your life for serenity and peace.
